If you thought Valentine's Day was the only sweetest day of the year, you were wrong!
On 5 February, the world's most famous hazelnut cream, Nutella, celebrates its 60th birthday.
Nutella in Italy is not just a chocolate cream, it is something more that brings people together and reminds us of home. Whether it is a simple delicacy, a breakfast or a pastry product, nothing can replace it. No matter the variants on the market, the best will always remain the original.

The origins of the iconic cream can be traced back to the post-war period. At the time cocoa was hard to find, a small village in Piedmont, in the Alba factory, managed to turn the problem into a great opportunity. Thus, a sweet paste was created with hazelnuts, sugar and the little cocoa available at the time. This first hazelnut paste was called Giandujot, after the traditional carnival mask. It was shaped like a loaf but could be cut into slices to be spread on bread. This paste was later transformed into Supercrema, a cream that was easier to spread, no longer in a loaf but in a jar.

In 1964 Nutella was born, the previous recipes were improved and it was given its iconic name. It is formed from the English word nut (hazelnut) and the ending ella. Its success is also determined by the simplicity of the logo, which has remained unchanged over the years. In no time at all, the Piedmontese chocolate cream became a worldwide phenomenon, starting in France and conquering Italy only two years later. The success was overwhelming, managing to become a permanent fixture in every supermarket worldwide. It was with this in mind that on 5 February 2007, all Nutella enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the famous spreadable cream by answering the call of Italian-American blogger Sara Rosso. She thought that Nutella deserved a day to celebrate and lovers of the famous cream agreed.

The story doesn't stop there, however. Sara handed over World Nutella Day to Ferrero in 2015, so that it could continue to develop over the years and continue to give those emotions that only good chocolate can give.
