World Asthma Day is an important opportunity for our international students to learn more about this chronic respiratory disease and how to manage it effectively during their stay abroad. Asthma can affect anyone, regardless of nationality or place of residence, and it is important that everyone is aware of the symptoms and best practices to prevent and manage attacks.
Studying in a new country can bring new challenges, including adapting to a different environment and exposure to factors that could trigger or exacerbate asthma symptoms, such as air pollution or local allergens. It is essential that international students with asthma are well informed about the health services available in their host country and local resources for managing their condition.
On World Asthma Day, we encourage our international students to take time to learn about the disease, consult local doctors for any questions or concerns, and share their experiences and knowledge with their classmates and the academic community. It is also a time to reflect on the importance of solidarity and mutual support among students so that no one feels alone in managing asthma during their time abroad.
We remind our international students to take care of their own health, to communicate openly with their lecturers and roommates about their needs and to seek immediate medical assistance in case of an emergency. Above all, do not let anyone feel excluded, insecure or embarrassed by an illness. Together, we can work to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their medical condition.
