"Celebrating the World of Animals: From Wild Nature to Our Home"

Animals constitute a vast and diverse category of organisms living on Earth, belonging to the animal kingdom. They include an extraordinary variety of species, from microscopic unicellular organisms to majestic mammals and imposing reptiles. Animals differ from plants in their ability to move independently, hunt or feed on other organisms, and often have developed nervous systems that allow them to perceive their environment and react to it.

Some of them have subsequently been domesticated by man to perform various functions useful to human society and thus made "domestic". This practice goes back thousands of years, when the first human communities began to breed animals for hunting, transportation, food production and other purposes. Pets have been selected and adapted through selective crossing to improve their desired characteristics, such as docility, productivity or strength.

Nowadays the most common pets include: dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits and many others. But unlike the past, today pets are no longer used only for agricultural purposes, or guard and rescue. In fact, in recent decades, the importance of the affective bonds between humans and domestic animals has grown considerably and the latter have become for us faithful companions, affectionate friends and, in some cases, real therapists.

This is because the company of a pet can combat loneliness, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve our mood in general, as their loving and unconditional presence is a continuous source of comfort. Even the City of Perugia, with its volunteers is constantly working to protect animals, even the most unfortunate, that are abandoned or sold by private. Such as The Cat Park of Ponte San Giovanni, which we will visit on October 7, which deals with generosity and solidarity to protect and assist cats in need, helping to promote adoption and ensure a better life for these animals.
