On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Perugia is organising an awareness-raising and reflection event, entitled ‘The Importance of Asking for Help’, to be held on 22 November at 6 p.m. at the Sala Fondazione Sant’Anna.
The event, open to all citizens and aimed in particular at international students, was created with the aim of addressing a delicate and extremely topical issue: gender violence. Through speeches by experts and direct testimonies, we will discuss how to recognise the signs of abuse, the importance of asking for help and strategies to prevent risk situations.
Prominent among the speakers will be Prof. Stefania Zucchini, professor at the University of Perugia, whose speech will focus on Ius corrigendi and gender violence in the Middle Ages.
The event will also see the participation of several local associations committed to combating gender violence and promoting equality:
- Break The Silence, for a discussion on warning signs and the need to create support networks.
- Comitato Artemisia, which will speak on the topic of consent and the dynamics of abuse.
- Porco Rosso, with a focus on the importance of collective awareness-raising.
- Omphalos, which will address gender-based violence with an inclusive and intersectional perspective.
Artistic and creative testimonies
The evening will be enriched by the reading of poems and texts in the mother tongue by international students, with translations projected for the audience, and by the projection of a short film made by Erasmus students and ESN Perugia volunteers, which will offer a touching reflection on gender violence seen through their eyes.
Sponsorships and Collaborations
The event enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Perugia, the University for Foreigners of Perugia and the University of Perugia, testifying to the importance of joining forces to raise awareness on such crucial issues.
