Every year, thousands of people gather in Perugia to walk together to Assisi for the Marcia della Pace (Peace March), a powerful event that has become a symbol of dialogue, solidarity and collective hope. This is not just a walk: it’s a shared experience that connects people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures under the banner of peace.
The Marcia della Pace is one of the most important civic events in the city and has deep historical roots. The first march took place in 1961, born from the vision of Italian philosopher Aldo Capitini, and since then it has brought together citizens, students, associations and communities from all over the world. Every year, the streets between Perugia and Assisi come alive with banners, songs, conversations, and thousands of footsteps moving in the same direction, towards a future of peace and inclusion.
For international students, this is a unique opportunity to take part in a moment that truly belongs to the city. By joining the march, you will walk alongside local people, schools, NGOs, volunteers and other students, becoming part of a living tradition that reflects the values of respect, solidarity and active participation. It’s a way to experience Perugia beyond its monuments and student life, and to feel part of something bigger, a shared movement that speaks a universal language.
